Most studies at Israeli institutions of higher education are held in Hebrew. You will have to deal with lectures, papers, exams and reading material in Hebrew. It is therefore necessary that you learn Hebrew before you actually enroll in a regular academic study program. Hebrew study programs are typically called “Ulpanim”. You should contact the student authority at the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption in order to determine the availability of any single program. |

| Where can one learn? |
Kibbutz Ulpan - combines academic studies with work in the various sections of the kibbutz. The Ulpan lasts five months, 20-25 hours a week. The student has to pay a fee to the Jewish Agency for his stay at the kibbutz.
Kibbutz Ulpan for Students - This program, run in cooperation with the Student Authority, fits academic requirements and runs according to the academic school year. The program is a five months program that runs twice a year.
Academic Summer Ulpan – Immigrant students who are accepted directly to regular M.A. and Ph.D. studies can attend a summer Ulpan held at universities around the country. The studies last 6-8 weeks, for a total of 150-200 hours. Students at TAKAH or mechina programs are not entitled to an academic summer Ulpan as they study Hebrew within these programs.
Advanced Ulpan – There are quite a few additional Ulpanim available for study. For details on advanced Ulpanim see Additional Types of Ulpanim.
